With digital technology advancing at such an alarming rate, it can be difficult for brands to find people with the skills they need to make the most of these innovations.

This is why global banking brand, HSBC is backing Fintech Olympiad. A financial technology focussed academic program, Fintech Olympiad has already attracted 600 entries from undergraduates and graduates at 19 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area universities.

Now in its third year, Fintech Olympiad has produced such innovative ideas such as a blockchain-based solution for loyalty reward schemes, which scooped the silver medal during last year’s program.

“The technology can be used for food tracking and sustainability purposes, as well as in logistics, fashion, or procurement,” said the creator of the platform, Hannah Boon, who is now studying for a master’s degree in business and management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. “It really inspires me to know that blockchain can be applied in different contexts and to positively impact people.”

The Fintech Olympiad is designed to help students bridge the gap between academia and the real-world applications of their studies – making it easier for businesses to find the kinds of innovate people they need to drive their brand forwards and for students to start their careers moving in the right direction.
