Procurement Analysis at Tesco – Hearing from the Experts

02/01/2022

With procurement suffering something of a skills gap these days, many companies are searching for ways to inspire a new generation of professionals to consider a career in their purchasing arms.

UK supermarket giant, Tesco is doing its part to meet this need by offering university graduates a place in its own Tesco Procurement Graduate Program. Spanish and French with European Studies graduate from the University of Bath and Tesco Procurement Analyst, Jasveen Kaur Kular explains why she thought the program was a suitable place to start her career outside of academia.

“When exploring career options, I tailored my search around key interests such as retail, people, learning and development,” said Kular. “The Tesco Procurement Graduate Programme description met these criteria, as it highlighted that I would be negotiating, managing professional relationships, and agreeing contracts that make a difference to colleagues and customers. Balanced with the fact that Tesco invests time into developing their graduates, I was confident that this was where I wanted to start my career.”

Kular adds that she has found procurement to be a great industry in which to kick off her career and has allowed her to develop confidence and a well-rounded skillset which she feels could be applied in many areas if life and work. While procurement does come with its own set of challenges, Kular ultimately finds it to be a hugely rewarding experience.
