How Shell has Crafted a Collaborative Platform to Help Suppliers Reduce Emissions

The biggest news in the energy industry today is the so-called “Energy Transition,” which is seeing some of the world’s biggest corporations joining in the massive undertaking of making the switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

Of course, changing from energy sources which have been the bedrock of human lives for decades is no mean feat and it requires forward thinking companies to work together with suppliers to create new solutions which, in turn, will create a better and more sustainable planet for generations to come.

As one of the biggest players in the game Shell is taking this responsibility particularly seriously and has created a new collaborative platform designed to help its suppliers reduce their own emissions during this transition.

Differentiating itself from other similar platforms, the Shell Supplier Energy Transition Hub is designed to be more than a simple calculator and works by collating corporate emissions data provided by suppliers and uses AI software to map out the best way for that supplier to meet its objectives in the given timeframe.

The solutions offered by the Hub are industry specific and is therefore able to make comparisons based on the relevant sector, rather than offering unhelpful one-size-fits-all suggestions. It was developed in partnership with 50 Shell suppliers who took part in a six-month pilot scheme.

“The Supplier Energy Transition Hub is a great example that it is not just technology, but collaboration that will drive transformation to net-zero emissions,” said Harry Brekelmans, Shell Projects and Technology (P&T) Director.
