AB InBev is Cutting Supplier Emissions for Its Budweiser Brand

10/28/2021

As one of the world’s most famous beer brands, Budweiser and its parent company AB InBev, the world’s largest brewery, are more than aware of their responsibilities when it comes to reducing the impact of their business operations on the planet and are putting sustainability at the heart of their procurement strategy.

Since 2017, AB InBev has slashed its carbon emissions from 32.35 million metric tons to 28.37 million, but it acknowledges the need to do more. Head of Procurement and Sustainability for the brand’s UK, Ireland, and Spain operations, Mauricio Coindreau has gone on the record and made his intention clear that he wants AB InBev to be the most sustainable brewery in the UK.

Starting with where it procures the energy required to brew its famous drinks, Budweiser Brewing Group has since February done so entirely from renewable suppliers. Coindreau is also collaborating with suppliers to significantly reduce the amount of packaging the company uses – currently accounting for 36% of its total emissions.

It also wants to address the cooling of its beers in shops and bars – around 20% of total emissions - which will also require working with those businesses and helping them find alternative and more sustainable energy and refrigeration suppliers
