BP is Levelling the Playing Field for Neurodiverse People
The neurodivergent can find it hard to gain a foothold in their careers and can often face discrimination, misunderstanding, and a world which fails to take the steps necessary to allow them to follow their goals in life.
With nearly a fifth of the population (15-20%) suffering some form of neurodivergence such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism and more brands stand to alienate a significant proportion of the workforce if they fail to take this demographic into account.
As part of its Empowering Futures project, energy giant, BP is making sure it devotes time and resources to growing its pool of neurodiverse talent. The main way BP is achieving this is by partnering with outside organisations such as MyPlus Consulting and Ambitious About Autism to make sure they are reaching neurodivergent people and encouraging them to consider the organisation in their career plans.
“We’re able to talk to candidates who may not have considered bp as somewhere that is accessible or a place they would consider working,” said Global Early Careers Manager at BP, Sinéad Ryan. “We can show that actually we do care, we are interested, and there is a huge amount of support we can offer.”
